Things Are Looking Up

Published by James under Family News, Gifts from God

Nothing has changed with Theresa since the last update. Good news today, though, is that the dishwasher is finally working again, with a new pump! Clean dishes all around. Raise a glass and toast the dishwasher repairman.

A Discovery of Very Little Importance

Published by James under Akward Social Situations, Culture

…but you might find it helpful someday.

Public TVs are things people tend not to touch. So if you’re alone in a waiting room and turn the station to something you won’t be distracted by and turn the volume down, but not quite all the way down, people will assume that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

I found that extremely helpful today when I really didn’t want to see constant “we have an election in 2 weeks” coverage. :0)

Spending Other People’s Money

Published by James under Economics, Politics

Will U.S. Taxpayers Need A Bailout?, Declan McCullagh Says Plan To Partially Nationalize U.S. Banks Has Many Potential Perils – CBS News
The almost-nationalization will happen even if, as the Wall Street Journal
delicately put it it, bank executives and shareholders are “unhappy” and oppose the idea.

This invites micromanaging from Washington, D.C. Members of Congress will have a strong incentive to demand preferential treatment for borrowers in their home districts or among politically-favored constituencies. Politicians who are members of the committees overseeing the Treasury Department’s budget will enjoy outsize influence. So will Treasury and other regulators that banks must please to stay in business.

A new column at CBSNews.com called Other People’s Money, of which this is the first installment, just got added to my reading list.

Looks like it will be informative to those who want to see the government spending less money, rather than more.

Update on Theresa

Published by James under Death, Family News

Those who read my blog have likely noticed that there hasn’t been anything there. I planned (and still will) to put some more of the writings I’ve done after previous miscarriage out on the web, but just haven’t done so.

For those who came in late, 15 days ago during a routine OB visit we found out that our baby is dead. Since then, there has been no change, and Theresa has not yet finished miscarrying.

The waiting is hard on both of us, but especially so on Theresa. Her body still is acting like a normal pregnancy and is a nearly constant reminder of the death of our little one.

Please continue to remember us in prayer. This continues to be hard, and we are steadfastly trying to trust God’s timing and care in all of it.
