Freaky Mail Award for the Year

Published by James at 11:58 am under Economics, Family News, Politics, You Can't Make This Up

Received in yesterday’s mail an envelope from the IRS:

Dear Taxpayer:

Our records show you and/or your spouse entered into a combat zone during 2004. To provide you with the special provisions and protection of the combat deferment, your account needs to correctly show the time served.

Huh?

Nuff said.

Seems unlikely since it came in the mail and already has an SS# on it and such. If they were phishing they’d just steal my identity. It looks just like the reports in format that I got back from my amended returns so I think it’s a clerical error of some sort.
